Swift Roofing proudly supports First Steps Himalaya in association with Court Construction.
Swift Roofing contributed towards Court Construction’s 2023 fundraiser where over $76,000 was raised ahead of the team heading off to Nepal to work with their Charity Partner First Steps Himalaya (FSH) for the 5th time. Their 2023 project is a new earthbag constructed school in Nuwakot, a remote region desperate for more educational facilities.
Court Construction has been supporting First Steps Himalaya since 2015. Children in Nepal are receiving sub-standard education in dilapidated classrooms from untrained teachers. This leaves them with limited life skills, vulnerable to exploitation and very likely to be stuck in a cycle of poverty and limited opportunities.
FSH are working hard to break that cycle, and empower these children to change their future with the skills they gain through quality education.
You can help too, by donating towards training great teachers and fillng the classes with much needed resources.
$25 buy an earthbag for a build
$50 pays for art materials such as crayons, paint & coloured paper for a class
$100 funds the salary of one teacher for a month
$250 allows a teacher to attend a week-long teacher training workshop
100% of all donations go directly to supporting children in Nepal. FSH is a registered NZ Charity and your donation is tax deductible. FSH appreciates any donation, of any size, because every dollar counts!

Short video about earthbag building technique used in the FSH projects.
Earthbag building is well suited to community projects because they can be built simply, quickly and economically using local, natural materials. Earthbag building is also known for it’s earthquake resilience, and since the devastating quakes of 2015 this method has been adopted by both local Nepali people and a wide range of aid organisations.

The highlight of the day is when the children enter Santa’s Toy Cave where they are given 2-3 high quality toys to call their own.
These events are only made possible from the very generous support of the business community throughout New Zealand. To find out how you can help these amazing events, and to view photos and video footage of previous events please visit the Special Children’s Christmas Parties website.
Swift Roofing proudly supports the Fiji Gaunavou 7s and the Restoration Rugby Academy.
A chance conversation with the team’s manager while on a trip to Fiji led to Mike taking some time out to attend some team practices. Observing the team’s lack of resources, Mike’s passion for 7s rugby kicked in and Swift Roofing now support this Fiji Gaunavou 7s team with apparel for the boys to use during practice and tournament games.
After relocating the business HQ north to Silverdale Mike has been coaching and supporting his son’s junior rugby team at Silverdale for the last couple of years. Really interesting history of the club can be read here in this downloadable PDF 'A History of Silverdale Rugby'.
Mike supported Scott Donaldson’s successful third attempt to kayak to New Zealand from Australia. Donaldson made the attempt in 2018. Departing Coff’s Harbour on May 2, 2018, ten days later he reached Lord Howe Island and awaited a weather window before departing again. He ultimately arrived at the Port of New Plymouth in New Zealand on the 2 July, 2018, becoming the first person to kayak solo across the Tasman. He was resupplied en-route.
